The beavers living at Abbe-Freeland are Faith, Ruben (oldest), Sunshine, Pedro and more come and go! Ruben is the oldest beaver and Faith is one of our educational animals. While many have forever homes at the sanctuary some come and go like Clarence who was found, rescued and released in the spring of 2017.

Did you know, Beavers do not hibernate. They are less active in the Winter, but they spend the Autumn very busy—cutting and hauling branches to a cache by their den entrance under the water. When the pond freezes over, this becomes their food supply for the Winter.

Beavers eat pumpkins, apples, and much more. They eat corn on the cob with their hands just like we do! Faith and the other beavers, porcupines, & woodchucks all love fresh sweet corn.
